Donington Park GP R11
The Donington Park GP track is one of my favourite tracks on the calendar and I knew it was important to get up to speed as quickly as possible after the short break from Oulton Park. FP1 was wet so I took my time to make sure I made no mistakes early on. As I gained confidence in the conditions my pace started to improve and by the end of the session I ended up P8. FP2 was a dry session which was went well, setting a PB of 1:35.9 from a previous best of 1:37.0 which gave me confidence going into qualifying.
Qualifying was also dry which was fortunate because the rain was constant throughout the weekend. I got out early and put the laps in to see me end up 6th on the grid and a second row start. I knew going into the race there were a few places I could improve on and was really excited to fight at the sharp end of the field again. The opening stages of the race went quite well, getting a good start and fighting from the very off. However, on lap 4 there was a massive crash a few positions in front of me, causing a 2 riders to crash and debris to fly everywhere. A part of one of the fallers machines flew up and smashed into the windscreen causing me to drop back. The safety car then came out and closed the pack back in again. After the safety car pitted there were only a few laps remaining so I pushed on and came back to finish in 7th. I was disappointed because I knew I had good pace, but I feel fortunate because my race could have ended worse like it did for the other riders involved in the incident.
